Weed and sex

September 2, 2018

Scientists at Stanford University went ahead and conducted a study to confirm what we already know: Weed takes sex to a whole nother level. A new study published in the Journal of Sex Medicine (which is apparently a real thing) looked at the relationship between sex and weed use.

The goal of the study was, “To elucidate whether a relation between marijuana use and sexual frequency exists using a nationally representative sample of reproductive-age men and women.” analyzed data from a massive group of 28,176 women and 22,943 men, so the sample size is quite large.

The results of the study study concluded that “Marijuana use is independently associated with increased sexual frequency and does not appear to impair sexual function.” In fact, daily users across all demographic groups reported having 20% more sex than those who have never used cannabis.

Past studies about sex and weed:

An additional JSM-published study conducted at Saint Louis University in Missouri also found that weed can significantly improve things in the bedroom. In the survey, the researchers polled 133 sexually-active adult women. The majority of the participants who consumed cannabis reported a better overall sexual experience, an increase in sex drive and more pleasurable orgasms.

A 1984 study cited by Psychology Daily found users to have an increased libido after smoking marijuana. While the study may be outdated, users still claim to have increased sexual desires when under the influence of the flower. This is due to an endless possibility of variables that still need to be scientifically proven, but delving into claim after claim, we believe using marijuana pre-foreplay does make you more aroused.

When it comes to marijuana, the topic of heightened senses is one of the most addressed. Users frequently claim that sex feels better when they’re high. This study shows that users feel more relaxed, euphoric and emotional—all good things in the bedroom.

Last toke:

We, the cannabis community, have been saying for years that weed is an aphrodisiac. Most people who have smoked cannabis will report that getting high has led to better sex. But anecdotal evidence isn’t enough sometimes. Especially when it comes to  controversial subjects like weed and sex. Usually, people respond better to research and data and numbers than they do to anecdotes. And so, for the time being at least, we need studies like these, studies about the benefits of weed to add legitimacy to our claims.
